Silent Cries

by Lucian C. Ban

What good a drop into an ocean?
What good a leaf into the wood?
Devoid of love and of emotion,
Why’s wrong if we misunderstood?

Our mother whispers muted cries
Of agony and of despair.
But we hear nothing - cozy lies;
Further our future we impair.

How hope and nature slowly dies,
Destroying likewise earth and sea -
Blind if we are to its demise,
Ignoring it - that we shall see!

Don’t be just one amongst the slaves
Of comfort - while our nature freeze.
If you’re a drop now, think of waves!
If you’re a leaf, just think of trees!

Origin story:

The text was also published on my old blog. I wrote it inspired by a Youtube clip (now lost) that depicted the struggle that nature faces against mankind’s wave of destruction. I believed then, and I still do now, that our combined efforts can still make a difference to reverse course and save our environment.
