Flames

by Lucian C. Ban

From childhood up to when we’re old

By flames we are devoured,

Providing futures yet untold;

So perfect and un-scoured.

As children when we dream to be

So famous when we’ll grow,

We burn with pleasure and with glee;

To distant lands we row.

Then, as we grow up more and more,

Sometimes our ships will sink,

And never reach the distant shore

The flame gone in a blink.

So dream! Be bold! Go on and burn!

Go spread your fire now!

Don’t be afraid for good to yearn,

You’ll have it when you’ll grow!

Origin story:

I think that each of us has an inner fire that, if fanned properly, can help us achieve our wildest dreams.

I am not sure if I ended up publishing this anywhere. I found it in an email sent to one of my friends back in 2010, together with a mention that I could use it to publish on FanStory.
